Many local newspapers allow anyone to post their ads for free on the paper’s website, and sometimes the ads – again, for free or a nominal fee – will appear in their next print edition. Using their online option, however, usually gives you virtually unlimited space and the ability to upload photos or anything else you might want to attach – even a map to your garage sale.
If you are trying to sell something, the best place to do it will always be online simply because of logistics – anyone with a computer the world over will be able to see what you have. If you choose to place an ad in a local newspaper, for example, you’ll be paying a high price for fairly low and very limited visibility.
With online ads you are unlimited in what you can use them for. Even small companies and sole proprietors are finding these free ads the perfect way to search for new people. Whereas newspapers charge a small fortune to place a want ad, most online classifieds let companies place ads, add links to websites with applications, maps to the office for interviewing, or copies of other information that job candidates might need to look at.
Personal and business announcements are popular, too. You might decide that you want to start babysitting for extra money – a free ad is the best way to get the word out that you’re available, and online sites give you plenty of space to talk about your experience and even list references.
These online sites are great places for announcements as well. Whether it’s a store opening, a wine tasting, block party, networking event, people actually look online for just this type of information rather than combing through newspapers and junk mail flyers.
They will usually find all this information within a few minutes… Something impossible to do by reading through newspapers! The immediacy also helps when you’re selling things – you don’t have to fit in with other people’s publishing schedules, all you need to do is click a few buttons and your classified advert is live and ready to be seen.
