Some things to consider when starting a business
I created my business up a few years ago and as with anything fresh it takes a lot of time learning about the many aspects of running a company. If you don’t come from a business background this can be very daunting. A simple way of looking at things is like this
1st your business needs to have a product or service to sell
Second ensure that what you are selling can be viewed by potential clients
3rd the product needs to be priced correctly to ensure you recieve the money you deserve.
The 1st area is an extremely important one, what do you have to sell? And is it something that people will need? If you are not sure about your answer to the second question, what I mean by this is, is the product you are selling something that week to week people will go out and purchase. Is the item, that you want to sell something that is a necessity or something that if money is a bit tight will be the first thing that isn’t bought.
The 2nd area to think about is whether your item will be seen by the people that will buy it. If people cant see your product you wont sell anything. Consider how you are going to be seen and how you are going to manage inquiries. Most businesses see the worth of a website but if your website isn’t found then your items wont be found either. Look into Search Engine Optimisation to promote your website as this will help to present your site to the search engines and in turn help it with its placement in the search engines ( Google, Yahoo and Bing ).
If you want to talk to individuals via the phone use a Phone Number that will stay the same whether you move location or not. I found out that a study made by the Institute of direct marketing said that if you used 0800 Numbers you could grow your inquiries by as much as 185%.
3rdly always make sure that you have looked at all of the costs involved in getting your product or service out to someone. Your time is a valuable asset, don’t give it away for free, make sure that you price in travel expenses, travel time, phone calls to clients, overheads, electricity, materials, and any quantity of items and time taken in the process of carrying out your clients requirements.
Its to easy to think that just because you are starting up you should be selling your products at a discounted rate so that you are able to get your piece of the market. All this actually does is increase the number of products or the services you have to sell to break even. When you create up a company think about what the hook for your business is going to be, what makes your services more desirable than when compared with your competition.
Finally make sure you network with people that are going to be beneficial to the success of your business. There are nearly always chamber of commerce meetings or business networking meetings in your area and its of value speaking to people at these to see if you can glean handy information and potential customer leads.
